Who We Are

Maven is building the university of the future - empowering the world’s creators to offer cohort-based courses directly to their audiences. Courses on Maven have community at their core, focus on active learning, and are available anywhere in the world.

Our team has raised $25 million from incredible investors including Andreessen Horowitz, First Round, Naval, and Arlan Hamilton, and we've launched sold-out courses with instructors like Li JinAnthony PomplianoLenny Rachitsky, and Sahil Lavingia.

We're the leading player in a massive and growing market, but are still early enough for you to make a big impact. Join us!

The Role

Best-selling authors, popular podcasters, newsletter writers, and social media influencers are all looking to share their expertise. You'll be the one to paint the picture of what their course business could look like and how to get there.

We’re looking for an entrepreneurial operator who will become an instructors’ main point of contact at Maven. You’ll be an extension of their team to help them bring their course empire to life. You’ll own relationships with 10-20 of Maven’s highest potential and top tier instructors at any given time.

This role is 50% account management and 50% operations:

Account management:

  • Ensure each instructor in your purview hits their revenue growth goals per quarter
  • Champion the instructors’ course business and identify advocates on their team who can help expand the course business.
  • Methodically build relationships with the instructor, supporting team, and contractors.
  • Foresee challenges and blockers and develop a systematic plan to navigate them. For example: navigate budget approvals, the instructors’ other projects, and course timing throughout the year.

Operations:

  • Conceptualize and propose a vision for their course business: everything from annual revenue goals to getting set up on the Maven platform.
  • Build relationships with the instructor’s team and identify clear roles and responsibilities.
  • Hire and train coaches, TAs, and instructors’ staff in delivery best practices: student communication, community building, in-class delivery techniques, feedback loops
  • Be the main point of contact for instructors & loop in growth marketers and course strategists as needed throughout the project.

You’ll work directly with instructors and their teams to deliver their courses early on, including project management, student communication, feedback analysis, and constant in-course problem solving.

This role is as dynamic as the creators we work with. For one instructor, you might help them hire a part-time course manager. For another, you’ll collaborate with their content team to shape existing material into a new course. Over time, as you help instructors build their course business, you’ll be less involved in cohort delivery and more focused on their long-term growth.

You are:

Picasso said, “Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun.” You transform a yellow spot into the sun. You’re scrappy, rigorous, and find a way to get things done. You’ve taken a little and turned it into a lot.

You’ve worked in roles that were ambiguous and ever-changing. You quickly digest new context and adapt. You have bold ideas, and an ambition to build something great. You're excited about developing new sources for top instructors and crafting compelling pitches. Rejection doesn’t deter you; it inspires you to iterate, innovate, and improve.

You're a strategic doer and entrepreneurial builder. You’ll be responsible for the success of your function, not just a single component of it. If you love research, are goal-oriented, and want to help build the future of education, we’re looking for you.

A few other criteria:

  • Project management ability because you’ll manage tight deadlines and a high volume of courses
  • Empathy, professionalism, and warmth because you’ll be the primary touchpoint with a variety of stakeholders (students, instructors, TAs)
  • Writing skills because written communication will be your primary medium
  • Strategic thinking and community design because we’re building from scratch so you’ll need to consider trade offs, risks, and second order effects
  • Responsive and excited about the “always on” aspect because you’ll help students, instructors, and TAs in real-time
  • Analytical mindset because you’ll be experimenting to optimize student engagement, retention, and satisfaction

Come Learn, Grow, and Build with Us

We're a fully remote company with employees across the US and Canada. Anyone within 1 hour of US time zones is welcome.

We’re open to talented folks new in their career, and love more experienced people who like doing the scrappy hands-on work before building a team. The role above will start as an individual contributor. Since you’ll start as a one-person show, you should be excited to roll up your sleeves to execute. Our business is evolving fast, and we’re looking for people who can evolve with us.
