Who We Are

Maven is building the university of the future - empowering the world’s creators to offer cohort-based courses directly to their audiences. Courses on Maven have community at their core, focus on active learning, and are available anywhere in the world.

Our team has raised $25 million from incredible investors including Andreessen Horowitz, First Round, Naval, and Arlan Hamilton, and we've launched sold-out courses with instructors like Li JinAnthony PomplianoLenny Rachitsky, and Sahil Lavingia.

We're the leading player in a massive and growing market, but are still early enough for you to make a big impact. Join us!

The Role

Even the greatest thinkers need help telling their story. You’ll work with the biggest name creators to conceptualize, research, and build cutting-edge cohort-based courses.

From scoping the course topic to building the presentation deck to designing student projects, you’ll be the instructor’s go-to course builder. Leveraging your instructional design experience and implementing Maven’s unique approach to cohort-based courses, you’ll build impactful learning experiences for Maven students.

  • Design the instructional scaffolding for new courses for the top tier of Maven instructors and most interesting minds on the internet.
  • Build the curriculum, write interactive exercises/breakout prompts, build slide decks for workshops, etc. You’ll develop content based on market trends as well as the instructor’s body of work.
  • Shape the positioning and strategy for new courses, including determining course price, length, target student, format, etc that will best serve the creators and their students.
  • Use your excellent taste in content and business savvy to assert what a course should look like. You’ll develop a process to assert your recommendations for what instructors should do. You should be comfortable working with imperfect information and keeping momentum with instructors.
  • Act as a thought partner for creators’ existing and new courses, leading content strategies to grow their businesses. You have high assertiveness to drive projects forward and high persuasiveness to influence/convince creators.
  • Collaborate across the marketing, operations, and account management teams to align on project timelines and key deliverables.
  • Measure course effectiveness (e.g. surveys, assessments, etc) and develop feedback loops to improve courses. This posture of continual improvement will ensure that courses are constantly leveling up in their content/structure/operations to best serve creators and students.
  • Strategize with instructors on their course topic, positioning, pricing, structure, and more. Sometimes you’ll execute the strategy, and other times you’ll be a thought-partner with instructors who will build on their own.

You’ll define a long-term strategy for creating and executing new courses on Maven. Initially you’ll act as an individual contributor, but you’ll eventually build a highly-leveraged team to develop new content for 15-20 new instructors per quarter.

This role will report to the GM of Partnerships.

Note: This role is first and foremost a builder. You’ll take an instructors’ ideas and turn them into high quality slide decks, project prompt directions, exercises, and more. You appreciate the craft and skill involved in creating high quality slide decks. Slides aren’t the end all be all by any means, but they are often the final expression of a curriculum and set the flow for instructors during their live workshops. Some workshops are 50%+ interactive, but still have slides that guide the content and flow to help keep instructors on topic.

You Are:

Picasso said, “Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot, others transform a yellow spot into the sun.” You transform a yellow spot into the sun. You’re scrappy, rigorous, and find a way to get things done. You’ve taken a little and turned it into a lot.

You’ve worked in roles that were ambiguous and ever-changing. You quickly digest new context and adapt. You have bold ideas, and an ambition to build something great. You're excited about developing new sources for top instructors and crafting compelling pitches. Rejection doesn’t deter you; it inspires you to iterate, innovate, and improve.

You're a strategic doer and entrepreneurial builder. You’ll be responsible for the success of your function, not just a single component of it. If you love research, are goal-oriented, and want to help build the future of education, we’re looking for you.

Come Learn, Grow, and Build with Us

We're a fully remote company with employees across the US and Canada. Anyone within 1 hour of US time zones is welcome.

We’re open to talented folks new in their career, and love more experienced people who like doing the scrappy hands-on work before building a team. The role above will start as an individual contributor. Since you’ll start as a one-person show, you should be excited to roll up your sleeves to execute. Our business is evolving fast, and we’re looking for people who can evolve with us.
